The visit, hosted by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, brought together senior representatives from both countries, as well as European leadership and business stakeholders. The programme combined bilateral talks with visits highlighting Swedish industry and innovation, including at World of Volvo.
During the summit, the two countries agreed on a joint action plan to guide the partnership and set an ambition to double trade and investment within five years.
The partnership is built on shared interests in economic growth, innovation and security, and reflects how India’s rapid technological development aligns with Sweden’s strengths in industry, research and sustainability. Leaders also discussed the importance of the ongoing EU–India free trade negotiations, which are expected to improve market access by reducing tariffs and trade barriers.
Several concrete initiatives were highlighted, including closer cooperation in AI and emerging technologies, a strengthened innovation partnership, and continued joint leadership of the global industry transition initiative LeadIT. Sweden and India also agreed to deepen collaboration in areas such as critical minerals, space and talent mobility, and to explore opportunities for direct air connectivity.
For Swedish companies, the strengthened partnership is expected to create new opportunities for exports, investment and collaboration in one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
For Team Sweden, the agreement provides a clearer framework for coordinated efforts across actors, with a focus now shifting from political agreement to implementation and concrete activities in the market.
