Hong Kong offers compelling opportunities for Swedish healthcare innovation due to its advanced healthcare system under capacity pressure from an ageing population. In addition, the city is planning for major infrastructure expansions that signal massive procurement and partnership potential.
One of the key government plans is the Second 10-Year Hospital Development Plan outling 19 projects estimated at ~SEK308 billion, targeting over 9,000 additional beds by 2040.
In addition, a SEK264 billion mega-infrastructure project Northern Metropolis plans three major public hospitals and integrates life sciences through biotech hubs, medical school and R&D facilities. Both presents strong opportunity in medtech, digital health, and sustainable operations amid rising demand.
Building on this potential, Business Sweden Hong Kong has organised two successful healthcare delegations over the past two years, connecting Swedish companies and institutions with local hospitals and authorities.
For 2026, a Swedish Hospital-Focus Delegation will be organized in Q4 which features Swedish solution and product providers specialising in medtech, digital health, and hospital operations. The program centres on round-table discussions with Hong Kong public and private hospital leaders to exchange needs and solutions, combined with targeted hospital site visits.
