India’s climate ambitions create opportunities for Swedish companies in steel and cement
India is raising its climate ambitions, aiming to transition its energy system and de-carbonise heavy industry.

With ambitious targets to cut emissions from sectors such as steel and cement, the Indian government is actively promoting international collaboration and new technology solutions.
This creates a strong demand for innovative, low-carbon solutions. An area where Swedish companies hold world-leading expertise. With advanced technologies in fossil-free steel, energy efficiency, and carbon capture, Sweden is well-positioned to support India’s journey towards net zero while strengthening bilateral cooperation and trade relations.
To further accelerate industrial de-carbonisation, Swedish companies in the steel and cement sectors can now apply for funding to conduct feasibility studies for pilot and demonstration projects together with Indian partners. The call is part of the LeadIT India Sweden Industry Transition Partnership, LeadIT ITP, led by the Swedish Energy Agency, supporting India’s green transition and fostering collaboration in heavy industry.
The Swedish Energy Agency is already deepening its dialogue with Indian stakeholders, identifying opportunities for joint projects and partnerships. For Swedish companies, this development opens the door to one of the world’s largest industrial markets, while contributing to global climate goals.
